Earth Day 2020: How We’re Continuing to Support Friends of The Earth

In light of Earth Day 2020, we thought we’d write a quick post letting you all know how we are supporting our partner charity, Friends of the Earth with every website project that comes through our (virtual) doors. Supporting charities such as Friends of the Earth is important for small businesses like ours, it’s crucial to be championing causes that look after our planet.

All of us are suffering tremendously with the Coronavirus pandemic having affecting us all in one way or another; jobs have been lost, small businesses are struggling, we can't see our friends and family, and that's not even thinking about the physical effects of the virus on health. But through all this hurt, there is a shed of light. As we’re all tucked away in our homes, we are seeing some phenomenal changes with our other global crisis, climate change.

As airlines ground their fleets, car travel grinds to a halt and industries shut down, emissions from transportation and power have plummeted. In the US, emissions of carbon dioxide are forecast to drop 7.5 per cent this year, according to a recent government estimate*. In the EU, daily emissions have fallen 58 per cent compared to pre-crisis levels, according to the French consultancy Sia Partners.**

Whilst this news is fantastic, we do need to remember that both crises are far from being solved.

People and communities around the world are already building solutions to the climate crisis. Now, during a pandemic, people and communities are showing again that huge change is possible.
— Rachel Kennerley, Friends of the Earth

A lot of small businesses have understandably had to pause or stop donating to charities in this challenging climate, but now more than ever is when charities need our support.

“From supporting the vulnerable and elderly, to food banks and homeless shelters, the need for charities is greater than ever and so is your support. The coronavirus pandemic has changed life for everyone, but it has especially impacted the lives of the most vulnerable members of our communities.”

Charities are looking at their biggest challenge yet. As demand for their services increase, they are facing a devastating loss of funds and man power at a time when they are needed most.
